Sending Money to Family in Foreign Country

Interviewee: Most sanctions programs provide a mechanism by which a person can send money to a family member located in a country that might be targeted for sanctions. In some sanctions programs, you must first obtain a specific license from OFAC before you can send money to family. In other sanctions programs, family remittances are either exempt from regulation or authorized pursuant to a general license.
